I used new media technologies effectively in the research and planning stages of my product. Firstly I used the internet to research into existing conventions of local newspapers. I also researched 'News values', using the site Wikipedia.
These values helped me deconstruct local newspaper articles, I looked closely for the main new values within them to see if I could find common ones to use in my own product.
As Wikipedia is not a fully reliable source I also used other sites to get information about news values

This site not only confirmed the information on Wikipedia, but provided me on information such as 'treatment and journalistic view', which again I analysed when deconstructing products.
- I also used the internet for my research and planning to display and record my work. By using blogger, it meant I could store my work and present it on a blog. As I have my own personal blog, I am already comfortable and experienced with how to utilise the site, meaning presenting my work wasn't a chore. (picture of me using blogger)
- I also used 'prezi presentation', a zooming presentation site. This ste was extremely helpful when deconstructing existing products as it was very spatious and had a clear layout. I watched tutorials on Youtube which helped me learn the basics of how to use the site. The more comfortable I got, the more experimental and creative I became with my own presenations.

By using Prezi presentation, it added variety to the presentation of my research and planning and incorporate different media. It also meant I could be creative, adding colour and making my work more visual and organised.
Prezi came in really useful when doing deconstructions, as it meant I could do a mind map and keep it ordered and presentable. With doing media, it is important to balance writing with using other forms of media such as images. With using Prezi I was able to do this effectively.
I also used Microsoft Publisher frequently in my research and planning. Just like Prezi, it provided me a blank page to deconstruct existing products, which I then print screened and saved as an image to upload on my blog. Using Publisher again made my work more presentable, as I could highlight specific conventions and deconstruct them along side.
Social media sites- Web 2.0 site Facebook came in extremely useful with my research and planning as it gave me a chance to find direct information from my target audience. It was a convenient way of asking them questions as I created a group and included my teenage section of target audience. As teenagers frequently use Facebook, I would be able to get the research quickly, being a convenient method of communication for both me and the target audience. On Facebook, it gave me the option to provide my audience with several options for questions, making it more interactive and easy for the audience to utilise.
For my ancillary task I created an online website, so I used the internet again to deconstruct existing products. I prints screened the site and then analysed it using publisher.
This was a convenient way of presenting my work, and also kept me organised. Using publisher meant I had access to shape tools which was key when highlighting certain aspects of the Internet site and then analysing it.
- The use of the Internet has enabled me to collect thorough, reliable information about my Target audience and has given me the opportunity to analyse existing products.
- It has also given me the tools to create my own product.
For the construction of my product, a media technology I used which was key to my product was my camera.
I used a Samsung camera to take pictures for my product. Using the 'Landscape' camera setting for my article images gave them a natural look which is what I aimed to do, make my images reflect real life. The camera was 14 mega pixels and provided excellent quality, making my images look more professional. As the camera had several different settings, I was able to use this to my advantage. For my poster, I took a mid close up of a model and said she was the editor of the paper. I used the beauty spot setting which gave the image a soft focus and again made it look more professional.
My memory card was extremely crucial when taking images. To make sure I got the best image for my product, I took a lot and then would go through and pick the best one. I could not of done this without my 4gb memory card.
Adobe was crucial in the construction of my product. This programme allowed me to construct my main product ad my ancillary task. I used the basic knowledge I learnt from AS media with constructing my magazine, however developed this knowledge by watching some tutorials on Youtube
- This video taught me the use of tools aswell as useful techniques.
Adobe was very easy to use once shown how and I felt I could be more creative with my product once I refreshed my memory. It had many useful tools such as the colour extractor 'eye drop tool'
- This tool allowed me to highlight a certain colour and use it again. This was useful as I wanted the masthead for my product to be the same colour as the Sunderland Strip, so using this tool I uploaded an image and highlighted the specific colour.
- Another tool that was useful was he stroke tool, which allowed me to put a border on words.
- By using this technique it enabled the words to stand out clear against the image. This enabled me to keep to an existing convention of a real life product.
- The use of adobe photoshop meant I could be totally creative with my layout and have the ability to move certain features at my own pleasure.
- another tool I found useful on photoshop was the eraser tool and the quick selection tool. The quick selection tool helped me to delete a large chunk of an image that didn't want to save rubbing out. The rubber I used to straighten up the edges and make them look less jiggered. Both these tools worked well together for my advert, as i wanted to have a whit background for it to stick to existing conventions.
The printer was crucial in the construction of my product. I would often print of my product every once in a while to show my target audience and receive some feedback. I would get constructive criticism from both my peers and my teacher who would point me in the right direction with my product. I could also see how well the colours worked when printing of my product.
For one of my ancillary tasks, I decdied to create a webpage for my local newspaper. To do this, I had sveral programmes at my disposal, however decided to use the online web building site 'wix'.
For the evaluation stage of my product, I have again used a range of media technologies. For my evaluation I felt it was particularly important to incorporate different media into my product to make it more visual.I have used Prezi presentation for a section of question 1. As I found there was a lot to write about for that particular question, I decided to use this to reduce a lot of writing.
I also decided, like my research and planning to use blogger to store my work. This site was effective as it was straight foreword and easy to use. Uploading videos and images is also easy.
I have used my webcam for my evaluation, to record myself talking about my product in relation to existing ones. I felt this was effective as it was a change from writing all the time. The incorporation of video also meant it was experimenting with different forms of meaning. By constructing a video, It was easy show exactly what I meant as I could point at certain features and explain them more clearly.
I also used videoing to collect audience research during the construction of my product. I felt it was important to get the target audiences opinions on things so I knew how well my product was appealing to them, so I reordered this information.
